In a commercial building, that small fan keeps a restroom from feeling like a locker room. Ignore it for a week, and you could be drying drywall. Ignore it for a month, and you're having an expensive conversation about mold and odor.

Also, the phrase the fan is broken might be the worst service request in our industry. Every time I hear it, I have to ask: the bathroom exhaust fan, or the blower on the HVAC unit? I have sent the wrong technician because those two got mixed up in one sentence. It cost us a day and the client a trip charge. Communication failure. Be specific when you call: the exhaust fan in the second-floor restroom isn't running. Or the air handler blower is making noise. Similar words, very different repair trucks.

Can a dead exhaust fan wait a day or two? Usually, yes. But repair it; don't just disable it. That little fan moves more air than it looks like. Can a Nest Thermostat Replace Heating and Air Conditioning?
